2010 Mercedes Benz E63 AMG
The E63 was scheduled to be unveiled at the New York Auto Show in less than a week and Mercedes had done a good job preventing leaks, until now.
We brought you a glimpse of the E63 AMG last week, but with the covers off, it’s obvious that the new AMG looks the business from all angles.
There’s plenty of power to match the potent looks, with AMG’s 6.3 litre V8 engine lurking under the hood. The big-banger V8 punches out 386kW (518hp) and 637Nm (465 lb-ft) of torque.
Despite its solid build and luxurious proportions, the E63 AMG manages an impressive 0-100km/h time of 4.4 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 248km/h (155 mph).
AMG has installed its newly developed AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension system into the E63 to ensure all that power can be put to good use. The system features electronically controlled dampers and auto-leveling air springs in the back.
To keep the engine on song at all times during spirited driving, AMG has utilised its SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed sports transmission. A multi-disc wet start-up clutch setup replaces the torque converter, which reduces drive-train losses and ensures silky smooth operation.
In manual mode, cylinders can be deactivated while shifting occurs to allow considerably faster shift times. The technological marvel will also rev-match gearshifts and provides a Race Start feature.
Braking is of course commensurate with a vehicle of this calibre, with 360mm ventilated and perforated brake discs all-round.
